Due to the large numbers regularly attending classes,
the LDTC Committee feels it is unable to guarantee
the safety of volunteers and members and has decided
to cancel all group classes for existing members for
the remainder of 2021. Normal training classes will
resume on January 30 2022 or as restrictions allow.
In an attempt to assist new dog owners, the Club will be offering limited spaces
in a two-week introduction program – HEAD START FOR 2022. This program
consists of two 45 minute classes, one week apart – ALL CLASSES ARE NOW FULL.
A Help Desk will be open from 9.15am to 10.45am (Sunday mornings 7 Nov to 5 Dec)
to assist existing club members only with specific training or equipment needs.
Welcome to the Leichhardt Dog Training Club. We are an incorporated,
non-profit organization that runs dog obedience training classes on most Sundays for people with puppies (from 16 weeks) and adult dogs. We use positive reinforcement and rewards-based training techniques as we have found this method of training leads to better understanding, trust and respect between owner and dog. Our grounds are located at the Hawthorne Canal Reserve in Leichhardt.
All of our Instructors are volunteers and avid dog enthusiasts.
After the introduction session on your first training day, you will progress into Class 1. Thereafter, progression through each level to Class 4 is by tests for promotion.
The Club trains in an off-leash dog park so there will be times when there are distractions, i.e. a dog, a ball or even a child runs through class. Use these distractions as a fun training exercise. It is important to be able to handle and manage your dog regardless of distractions.
